Wow! You lived five minutes from Harry K. Brown? What a great place! Man, I had SO many GREAT TIMES out there!! One year in '85 I camped the whole summer between Harry K. Brown and Spencer Beach in Kona. I spent a few months staying down the red road from Kalapana at Kalani Honua, just down the road from where you were. Too cool. If all you guys ever end up back here again we should have a forum party!

Ok, just spoke with my wife (something I religiously try to avoid) to refresh my memory. Make that a 5 minute bicycle ride, under two miles. It must have been sweet to have been there before all the damage, but Mother Nature is her own master. Most nights we could still see the glow from flows further up the mountain. You could walk to what's left of Harry K. Brown park on the lava behind our house – I’d sometimes take my little ones there. Mostly we went to Kehena beach keiki pool, or Queen’s bath. Loved the beaches on Kona side for sure.

My two years living on the island were an experience equal to no other I've had and these days I often find myself trying to (or wishing I could) recapture that peace.
